All modes work on mi max 2 running miui pro 8.8.2 version. To make it work on Android 7 you need to:

1. Enable Google photos as internal gallery

2. Disable "reduce photo camera noise reduction"

There is a bug with the video file thumbnail not appearing after video capture is finished but the file is saved correctly.

PS1: I couldn't disable HDR+ on front camera so this won't work on mi5s running Android 7.

PS2: Front camera video doesn't work.

(Note: On point number two he's talking about an actual setting which is probably named a bit differently than I translated.)
