Google Camera for the OnePlus 9 Series

Stable versions of the Google Camera port compatible with the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and 9R released in 2021 by OnePlus. Both the 9 and 9 Pro feature capable sensors, with the 48MP Sony IMX789 sensor used for the main camera and the 50MP Sony IMX766 used for the wide camera. The 9R uses the popular Sony IMX586 also used by the OP8/8T/Nord.

While these devices already have nice cameras, a GCam port will give you:

• Better low light / indoors performance.
• Astrophotography and automatic night sight.
• More accurate white balance, depending on your settings.
• Features like Portrait mode, Timelapse, Panorama.
• Google’s well known HDR+ processing.

Magisk / root is NOT required and overall support is good. Simply install the apk file, load a config (if available), and use GCam (quick guide available here).

Download GCam:

• If in doubt, simply download the first apk listed below.
• To avoid issues when viewing photos from inside GCam, keep the Google Photos app installed (no need to login).

Extra notes:

Due to some restrictions added by OnePlus, Google Camera ports can’t always access all cameras. This often can be bypassed by using an apk file with a specific “package name” (linked above) or by using a custom ROM.

Video quality is acceptable with GCam when using the correct settings, however, video stabilisation is often superior on the stock OnePlus camera.

Just like the stock camera does by default, GCam saves 12MP photos. Full resolution may be available on some versions, but sadly OnePlus limits most apps to the “binned” resolution of the sensor (<resolution> divided by 4). For example, a 48MP sensor will output 12MP files.

While the name is similar, the OnePlus 9 / 9 Pro and the 9R are in different categories, which the first two being clearly superior. The 9R, which is sold mostly in India, is very similar to the previous year’s OnePlus 8, 8T, and Nord, so versions and configs for these phones may also work on the 9R.

Regarding modders, the best options are the same as for other devices from this brand: Arnova8G2, Urnyx05, Wichaya, BSG.
